Don't panic. I think you should respond to the company involved pointing out all the above and explaining your confusion with the meta tags. If you are willing to hand it over you should ask for your registration costs to be met - they should be happy with this. As you are not currently using the domain they are in a stronger position as they can argue you are cyber-squatting. Hope this helps.
